The Enigma Color Guard, Women’s Volleyball, Softball, and Women’s Soccer were all in action this past weekend.
The Enigma Color Guard finished first place in their division this past weekend at Mount Vernon, making them the 2018 AIA Gold Medalists.
The Women’s Soccer team played University of Richmond last Saturday. UMW trailed 1-2 at halftime, but picked it up in the second half to win 4-2. Goal scorers are Marybeth Musgrove, Megan Jensen, Sophie Brinkley, and Mara DeTrani.
The Softball team travelled to Washington D.C last Saturday and played against George Washington University. UMW won both games, 17-1 and 17-6.
Lastly, two Women’s Volleyball teams played this past weekend. The blue team went undefeated in pool play, got a bye in the first round of playoffs, won the semifinals, and played Navy in the finals. Unfortunately, UMW Blue came up short and finished second. The Grey team did well in pool play which got them into playoffs, but lost out during the first round of playoffs and ended up finishing 5th.
The Men’s Ultimate Frisbee ended 5-1 last weekend, finishing second at the DIII East UR tournament. UMW lost against a good Middlebury team in the finals. UMW suffered a lot of injuries over the course of the weekend, which played a big role in the loss.
In two weeks, April 14th and 15th the Men’s Ultimate will have their conference championships. UMW are hosting at the Poor House Farm in Ashland, VA. If UMW finishes in the top 4, they will be seeded 1st and will move on to the regional tournament in Elon, NC.

The Softball team played this past weekend against William & Mary.
The Softball team played 2 games against William and Mary winning the first game 4-2. William & Mary came back in the second game, winning 7-8. The Softball Team will play again next weekend against George Mason and George Washington.
The Enigma Color Guard, Women’s Volleyball, and the Women’s Soccer will be in action next weekend.
Men’s Ultimate Frisbee – UNDEFEATED
The UMW Men’s Ultimate Frisbee had a great weekend, finishing 6-0 in the Oak Creek Challenge tournament in Frederica, DE.
The Oak Creek Challenge in one of the two Oak Creek sponsored tournaments the team played in this season. These tournaments bring together DI and DIII teams from all around the east coast, and this weekend saw 22 teams in the tournament.
UMW had a few close games, but the championship game was decided between two nationally ranked DIII rivals, #8 UMW and #7 Amherst College. UMW ended up playing Amherst twice, winning on both occasions.
The Men’s Ultimate team will be back in action at the Oak Creek Invite tournament in 2 weeks, it’s being hosted in Axton, Va.
Women’s Volleyball Home Tournament Last Saturday
The Women’s Club Volleyball team hosted their first tournament of the semester on Saturday, welcoming teams from ODU, William and Mary, GWU, and Radford. The Grey team placed third in pool play, proceeding to the quarter finals against ODU. The team fought hard against ODU, taking the team to 3 sets but losing in the third set by a just few points. The Blue team placed first in pool play, and then lost a close match to Radford in the semi-finals. The team from GW won the entire tournament.
Women’s Frisbee and Color Guard in Action
Over the weekend, UMW Women’s Ultimate Frisbee competed at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and the Enigma Color Guard competed at Woodbridge High School.
The Women’s Ultimate Frisbee played through tough conditions with pouring rain on Saturday morning and strong winds on Sunday. Still, the team managed to win 3 out of 4 games and finished 4th overall. The tournament included teams from CNU, ECU, GCSU, Michigan State, Maryland, and Drexel.
The Enigma Color Guard once again placed 1st in their division last Saturday. By finishing 1st, they raised their score up by 10 points from last week’s competition.
The Women’ Club Volleyball team will be in action at home on Saturday, February 17th, at Goolrick Main Gym.
Color Guard Competition
UMW’s Enigma Color Guard placed FIRST in their division in a competition at Spotsylvania High School in Spotsylvania, VA this past Saturday. This competition league included George Mason University, James Madison University, and other Virginia high schools (different division).
